  1. RIB International says:

When preparing for the Powerboat Level 2 course, “the best book is the RYA Powerboat Handbook.”

  2. Boat Mart says:

Endorsed by class 1 world powerboater Steve Curtis, this RYA Powerboat Handbook is a good way to introduce anyone to the sport of powerboating.

The book covers many aspects of the sport including parts of a boat, difficult conditions, collision regulations, navigation and life saving signals.

Written in a clear manner, even the dark not so easy to understand art of propeller size and pitch is explained, together with associated propeller problems such as cavitation and ventilation.

Safety and planing, slipway launching, boat handling, knots and rescue procedures are tackled in a seamanlike way, in a form that any newcomer to powerboats wouldn’t find difficult to appreciate.

All in all, a good buy for beginners and experts alike.

  3. Rod W says:

Given that this is a RYA book you would expect a good factual concise tutorial . A good common sense starter including the very important how to manouver the thing in confined spaces .
If you have other RYA books with weather and navigation etc you may find a fair bit of repetition – but for the powerboater a good overall instructional read – for the price of a fraction of a session at sea .
